The buzzword has been uttered: “Batch Cooking”. Have you ever heard of it? Well my dear readers, it is the latest trend so time to get up to date and show off at your next Sex in the City style brunch.
The concept is simple, Batch Cooking is the secret weapon to save time in the kitchen and make eating real food easy.
By preparing all your meals ahead in a large batch so on busy weekdays your meals will be speedy since you’ve done most of the cooking in advance. Simply make a date with your kitchen for about 1-2 hours, 1 day every week and have some fun cooking!
Well, that’s not new!
Damn right! Batch Cooking has been practiced by many cooks, for many years. The only difference is that it now has a name!
Indeed, there is nothing revolutionary in this concept but it is making a comeback. It’s like fashion, an everlasting recommencement.
- Once a week, prepare in large quantities a number of basic foods that you can keep in the fridge and reuse throughout the week.
- Take the mental “burden/obligation” off your mind from thinking “What am I going to make for dinner ” or “I still have to cook”.
- And save time every day of the week.
Batch it baby!
Cook the basic foods: cereals, vegetables, meats … As you cook these foods, cook them NAKED or as simple as possible (i.e. no dressing, no oil, no sauces, limited seasonings, etc.). Then, when meal time rolls around, you’ll simply re-heat on the skillet/oven/or even microwave and add your “toppers” – sauces, dressings, dips, fresh seasonings, herbs, dressings, etc.
